Fwaggle is a home-based breeding program located in the suburbs of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our program is quite small, housing at present 6 dogs (Tango, Flip, Indy, Halo, Mya, and Visa) plus Brita and Polo who are currently out being shown but will eventually find their way home! In addition to the TMTs living with us though, we have several additional dogs who are a valued part of our breeding program. We are grateful for the help of our friends and co-owners who have allowed us to maintain a successful breeding program while also offering our dogs the individual attention they demand and deserve.
Halo, Flip, Tango & RumourWe normally produce 2-3 litters each year and generally show only one or two of our dogs each year -- we are EXTREMELY picky about what we do or do not consider to be a potential champion. Over the past 20 years, and despite this limited pool, we are proud to have produced or owned 56 champions and several dogs with obedience, agility or flyball titles. Principally though, all of our dogs are pets first, show dogs last. Our dogs are housedogs -- they enjoy lounging on the couch, racing around the backyard and, like all Manchesters, finding a warm bed to climb into at night. All puppies are raised underfoot and exposed to a wide variety of stimuli in order to produce well-socialized, happy adults.
We are very active on the local dog scene and take part in a variety of canine events. Amanda is currently the Editor of Canine Review magazine and also contributes to Dogs In Review. We are both members of the Halifax Kennel Club, the Canadian Manchester Terrier Club, the American Manchester Terrier Club, the Toy Fox Terrier Club of Canada and the American Toy Fox Terrier Club.
Toy Manchester Terriers
Fwaggle has been the home/breeders of many of Canada's Top Toy Manchester Terriers over the past 20 years, including Best In Show, Best In Specialty Show, Best Puppy In Show and multiple group winners in both Canada and the U.S.
Our dogs have done very well show-wise on both sides of the border, and we have been honoured with several Best of Breeds, Award of Merit and Winners placements at American National Specialty Shows as well as group placements at such prestigious events as the Westminster Kennel Club, Progressive Toy Dog Club and Lower Mainland Dog Fanciers.
Over the years we have tried to increase awareness of this somewhat obscure breed and, to this end, have pushed hard for the formation of a national breed club. In 2004 the Canadian Manchester Terrier Club held its very first National Specialty in Saint John, New Brunswick and in 2002 completed a North American Health Survey. We were thrilled to be a part of both events. We are currently involved as primary organizers of a North American breed heart study headed by UPEI's Dr. Etienne Cote. It is our hope that through initiatives like this the CMTC can help to improve the health and overall quality of Manchesters being produced on this continent. Notables
Fwaggle is the proud breeder of MBIS/MBISS Am BISS Can Ch. Fwaggles Tapman at Burmack, HOF, C/AROM (aka "Jake") who won the 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2008 American Manchester Terrier Club National Specialties, was the #1 Toy Manchester Terrier in the U.S. for 2000-2005 (placing twice in the Top 20 Toy Dogs in the U.S.). Jake also won the breed or group placements at such prestigious events as Westminster (BOV 2002 - 2005, Group 4th in 2006), the Progressive Toy Dog Club Specialty (Group 3rd and 4th), and the AKC/Eukanuba Invitational. In 2004 he
ventured North of the border to finish his Canadian championship and, along the way, was awarded Best of Breed at the Canadian Manchester Terrier Club's inaugural National Specialty.
MBIS Am/Can Ch. Burmack Gaenja's Crusader at Fwaggle (aka "Indy"), has also made us very proud. While being campaigned, Indy earned 11 All-Breed Best In Shows in Canada and finished in the U.S. after only three weekends of shows south of the border. He won Best In Puppy Sweepstakes at the 2003 AMTC National Specialty as well as Reserve Winners Dog. The next day he went on to WD and BOW at the Supported Entry. He was the #1 Toy Manchester Terrier, #7 Toy Dog in Canada in 2004 & 2005 and the #1 Toy Manchester Terrier, #3 Toy Dog In Canada in 2006. In 2006, Indy traveled to the American Manchester National where he earned Best of Opposite Sex at the associated Regional Specialty and Best Stud Dog at the National itself. Indy was shown for only 5 months in the U.S. in 2007 but still finished the year as the #3 Toy Manchester (All-Breed). In February 2008, Indy was awarded Best of Variety at the Progressive Toy Dog Club Specialty in New York City. Indy is largely retired now and will make spot appearances at occasional specialties.
Our newest special, MBIS/BISS/BBEIS/MBPIS Ch. Fwaggle Burmack Clear As Mud (aka "Brita"), is co-owned by Joy Henderson. Brita is a multiple Best In Show and Specialty winner. She finished 2007 as the #1 Toy Manchester and #4 Toy Dog in Canada.
Toy Fox Terriers
In 2005 we acquired our first Toy Fox Terrier, Flip (RBIS Can/Am Ch. Valcopy Flipside) from breeder Dana Plonkey. Flip convinced us very quickly that this is the perfect second breed for us, stomping into the Manchesters' midst like a king. The following year we added Mya to the mix, and are having a great time with both. The Toy Fox was recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club in 2006 and Flip became the first TFT to rank #1 in Canada. We look forward to having our first litter of Toy Fox's in 2008. In the meantime, the little clowns brighten each and every day. Our Philosophy
We have been very successful in the show ring, it's true - but we value our dogs for more than just their beauty. We are proud to have produced titled obedience dogs, as well as puppies active in agility, working as therapy dogs, and filling their owners lives with joy as valued pets. All puppies are home raised and owners are provided with an appropriate guarantee for both health and temperament. We know that purchasing a puppy, whether for pet or show, is a huge commitment which is why we encourage puppy buyers to stay in touch. We are always interested in discussing this wonderful breed with interested parties and invite questions or comments.
Our family's love affair with dogs has continued to grow over the past 20 years and we hope to be able to share some of our affection for these noble breeds with you through this site.
