Vimy was born on November 11th, Remembrance Day here in Canada and a day very close to my heart. Professionally, I work in commemoration for the Canadian government and am lucky enough to spend my days paying tribute to the men and women who served and sacrificed on our behalf. It seemed fitting, then, to name Vimy after one of Canada's most beautiful memorials to our First World War fallen, the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France. Her registered name also hails from the era and describes soldiers charging from a trench (known as "going over the top")...and it just happens to perfectly capture her adventurous spirit.
I am very grateful to Vimy's breeder, Michelle Barlak, for sharing her with me. Tipping the scales at just 9 1/2 pounds at one year, she is a non-stop ball of energy intent on keeping the yard completely free of birds, bugs and earthworms. Her pedigree brings together some new-to-us lines with some of our favourite Fwaggles from yesteryear and her beautiful expression recalls some beautiful dogs from my past.
